Assignment 2: Final Presentations – Due Thursday of Week 7
Context
In week 5, you chose one chapter from our textbook that falls under Part III: Religious Diversity and Society. Here, you share your narrated slideshow presentation with the class.
Description
Using whichever software you prefer—PowerPoint, Keynote, Zoom, VoiceThread, etc.—design and record a narrated slideshow presentation in which you briefly (10-15 min) cover the information required below. Each of your slides should be engaging with proper balance between images and text, and your voice-over should flow at a moderate pace. In your narration, please cover the following key points (in no particular order).
What is/are the core ideas presented in this chapter?
What do you find compelling about the approach taken in your chapter, and what possibilities does it offer the study of religion?
What critiques of the approach might you or others have to offer, and how might proponents of the approach address these critiques effectively?
How does this chapter relate to others we have read and to the course as a whole?
How has this project (or class, if you like) further shaped your understanding of religion?
(Optional) Are there any new ways of thinking you’ve developed in the past few weeks that have helped you incorporate the course material into what you already knew?
End with a “suggested reading” list. You don’t need to narrate this slide, although you are welcome to if you have commentary you’d like to share.

Presentation/book to reply to: The Human Cosmos: Civilization and the Stars. Jo Marchant. Animal: An Early Cosmoloy. David Abram Wisdom Sits in Places. Keith Basso

Remember the Insider/Outsider Problem that we talked about in Week 2? The same challenges that insiders face appear when we review our own work. Peer feedback allows us to see our work from an outsider perspective and is thus important for intellectual growth.
Description
View the presentations of 2-3 of your classmates (if someone’s has yet to be commented on, please choose theirs) and offer feedback. What did they do well? What areas could have been improved? How does their work make you think more deeply about your own?
Please note: This assignment is worth twice as many points as your other discussion assignments.
Delivery
Sometime between the posting of presentations on Thursday and the close of the week on Sunday (11:59pm MT), post your feedback as a “reply” to your classmates’ presentation posts. Please engage them in dialogue as they respond to your feedback and engage with those who have given feedback on your presentation.
For more information on what constitutes a good post and substantive comment, see the Presentation Discussion Rubric .
4. Conflict management process
(Discussion Board Post) (3 paragraphs) (apa format) (apa citations are a must

5. Conflict management process
(Discussion Board reply) (3 paragraphs) (apa format) (apa citations are a must)
The Society for Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR) outlines a dispute resolution system (DRS) that I appreciate and respect. The SPIDR advocates that a DRS ought to prioritize the prevention, identification, and resolution of issues. The system will incorporate actionable ways to redefine the organization’s culture to solve problems through negotiation (instead of immediate escalation). Importantly, the SPIDR’s DRS includes options for employees to choose how to address conflict. This step is important because when individuals feel threatened or anxious, having choice helps with empowerment and a sense of control, which can de-escalate conflict. The SPIDR also advocates that structure and support are integrated to maintain the DRS. Additionally, the SPIDR’s DRS includes important elements like leadership buy in, processes for evaluating the DRS, communication strategies, trainings, input from all organizational stakeholders, and uniting the team under common values and mission.
To apply SPIDR’s DRS, I will use the fictional workplace of Dunder Mifflin on The Office. The employees at Dunder Mifflin should use this DRS to identify the (wide) variety of conflicts in their workplace by having a structured process that gives them opportunities to choose how to handle situations, negotiate their conflicting needs, and receiving training on how to prevent and respond to conflict. In the episode titled “Health Care,” conflict prevention would look like all employees doing their particular role (instead of Michael handing off his responsibility to choose a health care plan to Dwight). Identification of the problem would include staff having the opportunity to voice their opinions and perspectives to a neutral party. Conflict resolution would like the employees having options about how to handle the conflict, being able to name their needs, and—if necessary—return to their rights by putting the conflict of which health care plan to a vote.
