Crisis managers! I have a unique challenge for you.
I have found out over the years that most people can understand the difference between ethical and unethical behavior. But the middle area, amoral ethics is what confuses some. Review the mini-lecture, I have provided called Three Types of Managerial Ethics. Study Figure 10.2 in your textbook. Once you thoroughly understand what amoral ethics is, I want you to proceed with this discussion assignment.
Suppose YOU have been asked to explain the concept of amoral ethics to a group of high school students. You have 10 minutes to make a presentation and you must be successful in your presentation, i.e., there can be no doubt that the students now understand what amoral ethics is and the examples that illustrate it. Here are the parameters:
This assignment will consist of a PowerPoint slide presentation.
Your 1st goal – define/explain what amoral management is.
Your 2nd goal – provide 5 examples of amoral management. Be sure and describe each example in detail using bullet points or a paragraph.
In your slide show, you cannot use any examples that I use. They must all be “fresh” examples that a high school student would understand. Again, you cannot use any of my examples!
In your slide show, you cannot quote my definition verbatim. You must use your words, i.e., paraphrase my definition.
You need to include your brand image slide as your first slide. Put the names of everyone who worked on the slide show on this slide. Only those people will get credit for the assignment.
After the brand image slide, provide the definition slide.
After the definition slide, provide the five examples, ONE EXAMPLE PER SLIDE. You can use more slides than this if you want. More is better. But at least have one slide per example.
Last slide – your last slide needs to be something that ties your presentation together. It could be a conclusion slide, a lessons learned slide, or a slide that ends with a useful thought of some type.
To summarize, your presentation will consist of the following parts:
Brand image slide
Definition slide
Example 1 – Your example slides need to be at least one slide, but you can have two or more slides PER example.
Example 2 – see note above.
Example 3 – see note above.
Example 4 – see note above.
Example 5 – see note above.
Conclusion slide – try to say something profound here.
One final note, if I see any really good presentations, I may use some of them in my future classes to help illustrate amoral management. That is another reason to include your brand image page with the names of those who worked on the slides. I want to give credit where credit is due.
