Chapter 1: HRM in Perspective
Chapter 2: Strategy and HR Planning
Select an Industry that you would like to research. I would recommend picking an industry that you would like to work in or if your family already owns a business within the industry. You are encouraged to use the same industry throughout the term. The presentation should include why you chose the industry, types of organizations and the services they provide. The presentation should include a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, & threats) analysis. Give examples of organizational mission, vision, and values. Include unique challenges or issues the industry is currently facing and the risks these challenges pose.
You will then discuss the role of human resource management within the industry. It may be helpful to check out company websites, careers pages, or other links that discuss their HR processes. Employee handbooks can be a great source of information as well. How can HRM help these organizations overcome unique challenges? What role does HR play in helping to support organizational mission, vision and values? How can HR help strengthen the industry while also addressing any key weaknesses or threats? How does HR help prepare these organizations for the future?
Finally, discuss which companies are considered a high performing work system. Why? How does HR help support a high performing work system?
Conclude with your key takeaways or suggestions on improvement.
