For this assignment, you will write a 750 words expository paper discussing the major historical perspectives of cognitive psychology and how advancements in technology have led to a greater understanding of brain processes involved in cognition.
Include the following in your paper:
● Compare the early perspectives in cognitive psychology of empiricism and nativism.
○ Explain the key features of each perspective.
● Describe the contributions to cognitive psychology of the following historical movements and developments:
○ Ancient Greek philosophers (Plato, Aristotle, Descartes)
○ Research in Germany using introspection
○ Behaviorism in America
○ Human research during World War II
○ The cognitive revolution and the information processing approach
○ Linguistics
● Discuss contributions from the field of neuroscience to the understanding of cognitive psychology by addressing how at least two of the following have increased the understanding of the role of the brain in cognition:
○ Electroencephalogram
○ Magnetoencephalogram
○ Positron emission tomography
○ Functional magnetic resonance imaging
