The purpose of this is assignment is to explore the consumption of popular culture. It’s also an opportunity to get some practice creating PowerPoint slides and preparing a presentation. More specifically, do the following:
Use the concepts interpretive communities and horizon of expectations to create a short 4–5-minute presentation.
There are a couple ways to approach the assignment. You could think about how these concepts shape your experience of pop culture, in general. Or you could think about a specific instance in which you noticed these concepts at work while engaging with a piece of pop culture.
This presentation will include 2-3 PowerPoint slides and a narration of those slides (recorded using an audio program of your choice). In addition to slides, you will also write a script that you will be reading from as you do your narration. There’s no page minimum for the script, just be sure that your narration fills the 4-5 minutes. You will upload the slides, the narration, and the script to separate portals on Blackboard.
