Leadership Self-Assessment Report
Objective, Desсrіption and Components
A key objective of this course is personal leadership development. This self-assessment report provides you with an opportunity to apply the learning from this course to a project that will be personally meaningful and valuable to you. The report is an integration of the self-assessment assignments and exercises completed in the course – specifically, your 360 feedback report and Leadership Wheel results. This assignment will help you identify comprehensive themes from your self-assessment data and develop a framework and set of personal decision criteria for your leadership development.
There are three major components of an effective self-assessment: (1) gathering information about yourself in some systematic way (this is the ″raw data″ of your self-assessment), (2) making sense of these raw data (this is the ″identifying themes″), and (3) identifying implications for some relevant decision(s) you will make in the future (e.g., a possible promotion with new responsibilities, moving into a new career track within your organization, pursuing a new position that might better fit with your intrinsic interests, etc.) and developing an action plan.
You have completed the first step in the self-assessment process, gathering the raw data. You may also include data that have helped you understand yourself better such as prior performance appraisals or results from other assessments.
The next step is to identify some themes that weave together your raw data. Identifying themes involves consolidating and integrating your raw data into meaningful categories or patterns (i.e., ″themes″). This is essentially a creative thinking task. It involves analyzing your raw data, searching for common or related threads, and hypothesizing perceived themes that have some personal meaning to you. There is no list of legitimate themes! They may touch on issues such as the type of work you enjoy, the type of people you like to work with, personal issues, family concerns, career aspirations, relationships – in short, anything as long as it is big picture and meaningful to you!
Criteria and Format
Three criteria will be used to evaluate this report: (1) the degree to which you understand and interpret the meaning of your assessment information and its relevance to you; (2) the degree to which your self-assessment data are integrated into meaningful, coherent themes; and (3) the degree to which you identify and articulate specific big picture implications and action steps emerging from your themes.
The maximum length of the report is 17 pages which includes the text plus any charts, tables, graphs, and so on. The title page is excluded from this page limit. The report must be double-spaced and use 11 point font (strictly enforced).
