Oral presentation: (30%): Students will choose a historical, cultural, linguistic, political or
social topic of their preference related to the indigenous groups of the French and Spanish speaking
world to present it orally in class. The indigenous group they will choose could be one currently studied
in class or one of any other country where French and Spanish are spoken. The presentation should last
at least 3 min and be supported by any necessary audiovisual material. Students are expected to
examine the topic they present from a critical point of view and make connections with the norms of
the system they currently live in (I am from Belgium). They should focus on identifying parallel behaviors or opposite ways
of action while they evaluate the specific issue compared to similar ones of their own culture. Students
are expected to conduct research to further their knowledge about the topic and provide at least 3
sources on which they will base their presentation. At the end of their presentation, students are asked
to form 1 question for the remaining of the class to engage in a dialogue or debate. The evaluation will
be based on following instructions (length, 1 question, supportive aids, 3 sources), content (critical
reflection, clearly state similarities or differences, conducted research and use of various sources) and
overall preparation (not reading from the slides, answer possible questions and/or explain further the
presented content).
