RE-READ the third draft of your op-ed and suggested comments and track changes y

RE-READ the third draft of your op-ed and suggested comments and track changes your peers offered. Read your op-ed’s most recent version, the version with the highest v#.
DO NOT accept/reject any track changes or delete any comments. Only I should accept/reject track changes and delete comments.
(Re)read the op-ed feedback Download op-ed feedback I provided on writing op-eds that focuses on being clear, concise, and compelling when you write.
ARCHITECT (15 minutes)
On a sheet of paper, take longhand notes on what you hope to accomplish during your revision.
You should list the most important changes you want to make during this revision.
CARPENTER (60 minutes)
Revise your op-ed.
All revisions need to be completed using TRACK CHANGES https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-K0FlZPwCM. You will only earn credit for your revisions if they are done in track changes. If you do not use track changes, I will send you an email asking you to REDO your edits.
All comments should be addressed through your revisions. You will only earn credit for your revisions if you address all the feedback provided.
Make sure your final draft has a title and brief author biography (see the example published op-edsLinks to an external site. for what a brief author biography looks like).
Your final draft cannot have more than 650 words, including your title and brief author biography. If your op-ed has more than 650 words, I will email you asking you to REDO your edits.
JUDGE (15 minutes)
Record yourself reading your op-ed. Upload the recording to this discussion post. Click HERELinks to an external site. if you do not know how to upload an audio or video recording to Canvas.
Reading your op-ed out loud will expose potential needs for copy editing and sentences and passages of the op-ed that are awkward, unclear, or otherwise in need of additional revisions.
Your recording should not be edited; you do not need multiple takes. If you identify areas needing revision, make the revision before you submit your final version.
Failure to upload yourself reading your op-ed will result in a “missed” assignment, and I will email you asking you to REDO your edits.
Make revisions to your op-ed based on what you notice while reading your op-ed aloud. This step may be done while you are reading your op-ed aloud.
Attach the final draft of your op-ed as a REPLY to your initial post using the following naming convention: “last_name oped v#.” For example, my Word document would be saved as otoole oped v11.
PROFESSOR APPORVAL
I will review all op-eds to ensure you have fulfilled the writing engagement instructions. I will send the document back to you for revisions if you have not, and I will notify you that it is all set for submission to The Virginian-Pilot if you have. Submitting to The Virginian-PilotLinks to an external site. is the last step of the writing engagement
The final version must be no more than 650 words, including your brief bio and title. Both the bio and title are necessary.
Remove all in-text citations and references. These are unnecessary for the submission (see the video conversation with Brian posted to Canvas earlier this semester for more information).
The final version must be copy-edited and free of spelling and grammatical errors. The standard for spelling and grammar is based on consistency with articles published by The Virginian-Pilot.
Substantive revisions have been made between the previous version and the version you are submitting. Making only a few minor changes will result in me sending the document back with additional comments for revisions. Two of the learning objectives for this course are (1) objectively reflect on one’s learning and (2) reliably self-assess one’s performance on assigned tasks. Even if you have not received direct, written feedback on this last writing assignment, you have learned how to be a reflective writer who is capable of assessing where improvements can be made. I look forward to seeing you demonstrate it 🙂
