In the assignment, you are asked to create a 5-minute clip (going over the allotted time will be penalised), in which you should communicate the content of the paper you chose in an engaging, comprehensive manner. This will include all the sections of the paper (e.g., literature review, aims, method, etc.) and embed it in the larger context of the Module it is relevant to (e.g., Sex & Relationships, Taboo Sexuality) based on the other materials you’ve learned about in the Module. As sex and sexuality are strongly related to normative evaluations of morality, ethical considerations related to the research you discuss should be embedded in the presentation. Thus, an excellent submission will be one that contains all the most relevant knowledge on the topic (given the time limit) communicated in a CLEAR, error-free, and captivating way. You should use your voice, pauses, and visual elements (e.g., non-distracting background, potential visual aids as long as they contribute to the understanding) to teach your viewer about your paper’s content. This will potentially include starting off with a ‘hook,’ an element that you’ll elaborate on and will serve to ignite the interest in the viewer about the upcoming presentation. You can use your favourite TED talks (we have some in the Modules themselves, but you can emulate others if you find them more appealing) as a stylistic guide to a well communicated presentation. Please make sure to state which criteria you are fulfilling (eg. “ethical considerations”) before you begin each section in the video.
This assignment is designed to assess your ability to critically evaluate existing psychological research on sexuality, taking into account ethical and empirical considerations along the way. As such, the marks will be assigned based on how well these learning outcomes have been demonstrated.
