Topic: (15% of course grade) Five-page Research paper project based on research/analysis of
a significant period/movement in U.S. History from 1914 to 1945 (Examples: foreign
affairs/diplomatic history, civil rights or other social movements). To answer the assignment
questions, you must research. That means you must find at least SIX sources (books, articles,
and at least TWO should be primary sources). You will need to prepare a Bibliography of the
sources you use. Papers should include page numbers and footnotes. All sources must be
clearly noted as per The Chicago Manual of Style, or another accepted form of citation. Due

Did the student address the assignment in its entirety? Evaluate the degree to which the
student addressed the assignment using the following categories.
Topic Proposal: Does the student submit a topic proposal, including a list of research
questions and potential sources?
Introduction/Description and Conclusion: Does the student provide a clear thesis
statement/argument? At the end of the paper, did the student effectively summarize
their findings? Did the student exceed the page limit?

Topic sentences, Organization, Spelling and Grammar: Is the paper clearly organized?
Does the body of each paragraph do what the topic sentence says it will do?

Use of Evidence: Did the student select SIX compelling sources (with at least TWO
primary sources)? Is evidence from these sources clearly and effectively used to
answer the questions posed? Is a complete bibliography included with the project
submission? Are citations used every time the student incorporates source material
into their paper?

Analysis: Did the student provide the necessary analysis and answer all the posed
assignment questions, including:
