Conflict is a very powerful literary device. Many scholars state that it is the conflict of any story that drives all of the other devices. This is most likely true. Think of a story of a man struggling in the wilderness to survive. The setting, plot, symbolism, point of view, theme, and characterization all focus on the conflictual question of survival.
Most authors focus on three main categories of Conflict: Person vs. Person, Person vs. Nature, and Person vs. Oneself. Sometimes, there can be overlapping conflicts or different conflicts at different times in the plot line. However they are laid out, the reader always recognizes that conflict and provides the relatability of personal experience that the author is trying to reach. Objectives:Develop a position paper.
