Based on the theoretical and practical aspects of discourse analysis covered during the sessions, towards the end of the course, students choose a small body of discourse (related to TESOL theory, research, or practice broadly defined) and conduct a small scale (critical) discourse analysis based on a framework or approach of their interest. The selected topic, the specific data body, and the process of analysis should be negotiated with the lecturer. The essay that reports this discourse analysis project should comprise the following sections (up to 2500 words, including notes and references) and should be formatted based on the APA style:
Title Page; including the title of the project, your name and email, student number, course title,
lecturer’s name, and date
-Abstract (around 150 words)
-Introduction; stating the idea, problem, and aim of the project (around 200 words)
-Background; presenting a brief overview of a few previous theoretical discussions and data-based studies related to the topic addressed in your project (around 300 words)
-Method; describing the examined type of discourse, the quality and quantity of the specific body of discourse analyzed in the project, and the applied analytical approach or framework (around 300 words)
-Analysis/Findings; presenting the details of the analysis and the findings and interpretations
