Write a substantial book review. Suitable books could be fiction or nonfiction, although nonfiction is generally easier to work with. If you choose to review a book, it should be about one of the regions/countries covered in the course, or one (or more) of the major themes of World Geography. I don’t have any preconceptions about what books would work or not, but if you want suggestions or clarification, please let me know.
Book reviews should include the following:
A full bibliographic citation.
A brief discussion of the author(s). E.g., if the author is an academic, where do they work? What field do they study? What is their specialty area? What other books have they written? (Etc.)
A summary of the book’s contents. What is the book about? How is it organized? What are the author’s conclusions or key takeaways from the book? For an academic book, what does it contribute to the field?
A discussion of how the book relates to or builds on the course materials. What did you learn from the book? How does it influence your knowledge and understanding of world geography?
Book reviews should be about 4-5 pages in length. The summary should be the longest part (~2-3 pages); author bio and discussion should be about a page each. Illustrations are a plus, but do not count towards length.
