Use critical thinking, what you have learned from the Scientific Method Tutorial (Parts 4 and 6) and/or these Week 1 recommended videos: pseudoscience and scientific method, at least one relevant peer-reviewed scholarly article, and other information sources as needed to determine whether your chosen claim is based mostly on science or pseudoscience (it may be a little of both).
To locate peer-reviewed scholarly articles use keywords that match your chosen claim, and one of the following search engines:
UMGC Library’s OneSearch
GoogleScholar
Not sure what a peer-reviewed scholarly article is? Here is a good explanation from the UMGC Library: Locate and evaluate scholarly articles
In 300-500 words and 3 paragraphs, write a paper that includes the following:
Introduce the chosen claim, any supporting evidence in the provided article/website from the list above (no supportive evidence? – state so), and your first impression of the claim.
Summarize what you learned from the peer-reviewed scholarly research article(s). You are required to cite a minimum of one scholarly article but are encouraged to review several. When considering whether the scholarly research article(s) fully supports the provided claim, think about the scope and relevancy of the research, sample size, potential bias, and the researchers’ certainty in their findings. Take a look at the publication date and consider whether newer research studies may exist.
Conclude whether the chosen claim is mostly based on science or pseudoscience. You should demonstrate your understanding of how science differs from pseudoscience in the conclusion.
At a minimum, cite the provided article/site for the chosen claim (from the list above), one peer-reviewed scholarly article, and one of the course learning resources.
Include in-text citations and references to all information sources used in APA format.
