Each source must be from a peer-reviewed academic journal. This will help ensure you are on track before you submit the rough draft of Essay 1. Follow the annotated bibliography format provided in the instructions. The following information should be helpful when formatting sources. Use a three-paragraph format for each source. Begin with a citation for each source – format the citation in accordance with APA citation guidelines. In the first paragraph, write a summary beginning with the title of the article, the author’s name, and the publication information, and restating via paraphrase and quotation the author’s thesis and main idea. Include at least one direct quotation from each source which could be a few words or a sentence. Do not include your opinion of the article in the paragraph. The summary should reflect only the ideas expressed in the source. In the second paragraph, establish the credibility of the source. In other words, write a justification for why this is a source that your intended audience would accept as authoritative and credible. In the third paragraph, reflect on how this article enhances your understanding of the topic and how it confirms or disputes one of the other sources you’ve selected. Additionally, discuss how you think you might use the source in your proposal.
