Of, these themes often intersect. This essay will be 1,500 words with with ten citations(NO WIKIPEDIAOR OTHER ENCYCLOPEDIC references. Newspaper and other relevant media sources are allowed), and observations made during our travels in Italy(Note that citations are not included in the word count)
I am doing my topic about the impact of air pollution on historical monuments in Rome 
Key Sites for Observation: The Colosseum, Roman Forum, and other ancient sites in Rome.
Focus: Discuss the effects of air pollution on Rome’s historical monuments and the strategies in place to mitigate damage.
Writing Hourglass 
–              Introduction
o   Hook your readers 
§  Grab the attention with a bold, broad statement about the thesis.

§  Include at least one concrete detail. 
§  Provide commentary on that detail. 
§  End with a closing statement. 
–              Conclusion
o   Restate the thesis. 
o   Transition to conclusion. 
o   End with a broad statement. 
§  State what you have learned and connect it to your hook, addressing how the topic may have impacted you, your community, or your world.
Include 
–              Thesis or statement of objectives 
–              Conclusion section 
–              A numerical value when present rather than “approximately.”
o   E.g., “their life span is approximately 80 years.” DON’T do this. 
Avoid
–              Words and phrases such as: 
o   “a lot”, “a bunch”, “huge”
o   “Looked at…”
o   “Talked about…”
o   “A study conducted.”
–              Repetitive word usage:
o   “Studies like these help researchers to help conserve these…”
–              “Detached dates” at the end of a sentence
Remember 
–              The numbers 1-9 are presented as words when used singly. 
–              The word data is plural. 
–              Do remember that scientific names are italicized. 
–              Affect is a verb, effect (the result) is a noun. 
–              Proper usage of that versus which 
o   If the sentence doesn’t need the clause that the word in the question is connecting, use which. If it does use that 
–              Proper usage of former vs. latter 
o   F for first, L for last
–              Autocorrect will not replace a misspelled word with the word you intended to use.
