For this first paper, I want to take a brief step back. In chapter one, the firs

For this first paper, I want to take a brief step back. In chapter one, the first review question (Section 9 – Review Question) states the following:
“Why do some argue that America’s preoccupation with sports is unhealthy? Think in terms of economics.”
Part 1:
I want you to think about this and list at LEAST one reason (and no more than 2 or 3 tops) why some could think it has gotten out of control.
NOTE – there is not one correct reason for it. In fact, you might find a good argument that you DON’T really agree with … so if you would like, feel free to also provide a strong counterpoint as to why the argument is actually wrong or can be refuted.
IN ADDITION – Please include at least one figure, graph, or highlighting your finding. YOU CAN CREATE THIS IF YOU WOULD LIKE IN EXCEL ON YOUR OWN
For example – (don’t use this one, as it is an example and it’s not really even a great argument…) if I were to suggest that salaries were too high, I could show the average household income over the last 40 years in a graph and compare that to average salaries per player during the same time period …)
If you have any questions, just ask. However – please remember to reference the Written Paper Instructions. Remember – this is not busy work. Get in. Make an intelligent and thought provoking argument based on BOTH SPORTS and ECONOMIC data … and then get out!
Part 2:
Now here is how we can have some fun. If you haven’t played around with some form of AI (artificial intelligence) yet, then this is your chance. I can recommend using Chat GPT or Copilot, as I know both of those should be available to you as Penn State students. However, please feel free to use any free version.
Access an AI, and ask it the same question I asked you. Make sure to include the brief output that the AI gives you in your paper as well.
Part 3:
Let’s compare.
Did the AI have a similar answer? Was it different? Was it timely? Was it correct?
Think about how powerful AI can be, not just in helping you in this course or all of academia, but also in your life. Finally, the real question is, do you trust it? (Consider what it told you above – do you think you can really rely on it?)
