In this module, we discussed two major theoretical perspectives with vastly diff

In this module, we discussed two major theoretical perspectives with vastly different viewpoints on crime and potential policy implications. Biosocial perspectives on crime largely bring back the biological perspectives on criminal behavior that served as a strong foundation for criminology while also integrating some sociological explanations for crime. Life-course theories are a newer perspective that integrate a multitude of potential reasons for criminal behavior across one’s life while simultaneously examining ways that individuals can desist from criminal behavior. Although both aspects of attempting to understand criminal behavior are somewhat difficult to measure, as the biological component requires sophisticated testing and life-course perspective requires longitudinal data, both perspectives likely have a bright future in criminology. However, if and what policy implications might arise from such perspectives remains to be seen.
For this discussion post, I want each of you to answer the following: (1) Which theoretical perspective, biosocial or life-course, do you believe is better-equipped at explaining the vast majority of criminal behaviors?; (2) For your chosen perspective, which individual theory (if you choose biological, you can focus on a particular aspect, like the nervous system or individual traits covered in the textbook) covered in this module’s readings do you believe is best-suited for explaining criminal behavior? Why? (please list a minimum of three reasons); (3) Please state which theoretical perspective would be easiest for policy-makers and criminal justice practitioners to implement and why.; (4) What are some dangers of having policy implications that utilize a biosocial perspective?
There is a minimum of three citations (these should come from your assigned readings) required for this discussion post. Please cite in proper APA in-text citation style.
