1. Section 2.1- Simon Bolivar: Simon Bolivar was known as the George Washington of Latin America. He was known as the “liberator” and worked to free South America from Spain. Bolivar was successful and free many nations including Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. Review Bolivar’s letter on the government in Latin America in our textbook on page 575. Discuss how Bolivar felt that the political and social circumstances were different than those in the United States. Why did he feel that Latin America had such a unique situation? What problems did he anticipate for the future?
