The learning objective of this project is to examine the consumer behavior and motivation of fashion-conscious campus community members. Students will create a mock digital issue of “Vogue USD” magazine for which students will form an Editorial Board and assign individual duties. While it will be a team project, each student will be responsible for one feature story of 1-2 pages in length with a photo(s), and one advertisement of a size determined by a student. Feature stories should reflect how fashion is observed and practiced by the USD community. For the advertisements, students will choose fashion brands that could hypothetically market their products to the campus members if the magazine were real. Students will be encouraged to exercise their creativity brainstorming diverse and authentic topics for the story, collecting data, staging and shooting images, and using AI tools to enhance visual components of their contributions. The magazine will be created on the digital platform Canva and presented in class. Grading will consider both collective efforts and individual contributions. More guidance will be provided as needed.
Please make the feature story about a Saudi student at USD who is obsessed with perfumes and how he compares perfume culture between Saudi Arabia/Middle East and the United States. Explain that perfume culture at the Middle East is deeper and goes back to a richer history than that of Americans who usually opt for basic colognes. The brand chosen for the print advertisement is Le Labo. Connect Le Labo fragrances to USD and how students can use them on a daily basis since they are light niche perfumes that can be used oftenly.
