The growing importance of space and its significance in the contemporary security environment of the United States necessitated the creation of the United States Space Force (USSF) on December 20, 2019. The Space Force, being the youngest military branch of the United States, utilizes the Command and Control (C2) system to manage military operations that facilitate quality and timely battlespace decisions. During such sensitive operations, a clear, robust C2 structure is essential in dealing with space threats while seizing opportunities. This proposal advocates for the creation of such a structure for the Space Force based on the DOPMIC Framework.
This is a project-based learning course. Your project for this course will be to develop and propose a Command and Control structure for the newly created US Space Force.
This project has three requirements:
Develop a written generic Joint Command and Control outline (due Week 3);
Develop a written Command and Control structure proposal for the US Space Force (due Week 6); and
Develop a short set of briefing slides to present your proposed Command and Control structure of the US Space force (due Week 8).
The intent of this assignment is to provide the opportunity to develop a briefing to share the Command and Control structure for the US Space Force you developed with others. You will have the opportunity to share your briefing with your classmates in our final discussion forum.
Your assignment must be a short PowerPoint presentation (i.e., 10 slides) to brief the results of your first two tasks to senior US defense officials.
This will include the following slides:
A title slide
An overview of the US Space Force command and control structure you are proposing
One slide addressing the overall concept of Command for the US Space Force
One slide addressing the overall concept of Control for the US Space Force
One slide each addressing the Five Essential Elements of Command and Control – DOPMIC as applied to the US Space Force:
Decision making – related to command
Organization – related to command
Planning – related to control
Management of Information – related to control
Communications – related to command and control
One slide providing any concluding thoughts about the command and control structure you are proposing for the US Space Force.
Since it is a briefing, the text on your slides may be in outline/bullet form. Each slide should contain enough information to speak for itself without additional narrative. You may include briefing notes for each slide if/where appropriate.
You will share this presentation with your peers in our final discussion so that others can benefit from your work.
Technical Requirements:
Your assignment must be at least 10 PPT slides (the Title slide and Reference slide will be additional slides).
Use scholarly or other relevant sources.
Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.
All submissions will be graded using the assignment rubric.
