Topic [Paekche Buddhism] Hyongwang and the Lotus Scripture (Lee, p.39-41)
Primary sources are the evidence of history, original records or objects created by participants or observers at the time historical events occurred or even well after events, as in memoirs and oral histories. Primary sources may include but are not limited to: letters, manuscripts, diaries, journals, newspapers, maps, speeches, interviews, documents produced by government agencies, photographs, audio or video recordings, born-digital items (e.g. emails), research data, and objects or artifacts (such as works of art or ancient roads, buildings, tools, and weapons). These sources serve as the raw materials historians use to interpret and analyze the past.

Write a 2-3 page review of the primary source you have been assigned.  Imagine you are explaining the literary piece, person or object to someone who has no idea what it is.  Some questions to consider in writing your review:
Who who wrote, or ordered to be written, the document? (or if a person, a brief bio)
What language and script was it originally written in?
If a written document, how was it originally published or discovered?
Where and when was it written or made?
Was it written/made by a participant or an observer?  Someone from the same culture or region, or a different one?
Does the source deal with a time period contemporary to the author or creator, or much later?
What can the source tell you about events of that time?  What is the significance of this source?
What perspective or bias can you observe in this writing?
How does this source inform your understanding of this period of Korean history?
Please write your review in paragraph form, as if you are writing an article in a magazine or newspaper.  12 point Times New Roman text, 1 1/2 space, 1 inch margins.  Use footnotes in Chicago style when citing your sources.  It is not necessary for this assignment to use other sources, but if you find them helpful, please include and cite them, as well as a Bibliography page at the end of your review.
