Hello Class,
Happy week 5, I honestly feel like this class has really opened up my views on the bible and I have learned and grown from this class. In our week 5 discussion we were given the topic of “The Story Spread”. The first question is how is the kingdom of God described in these first chapters of Acts? A post-resurrection discussion between Jesus and his disciples opens the book of Acts. Jesus shares knowledge on the kingdom of God to his disciples.The goal of Jesus is to bring the world back to what God intended becomes the primary objective of the community of Jesus’ followers.The first step in the process is to establish the special community known as the church. Luke starts with the neighborhood “Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth ( Acts 1:6-8)”. What is the significance of Acts 2:17, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people,” for how the story will spread? Calling on the name of the Lord is one method to experience the outpouring of the Spirit. We are assured that the Holy Spirit will give us the ability to testify to Christ’s presence among us and his gospel of sin forgiveness. Thank you and I look forward to any feedback!

Navigating through this week’s readings it’s taking me some time to really comprehend and take in everything that’s happened in Luke and Acts. I see there are many things to learn from these readings. I’m very important topic to really understand is how things happen for the ultimate good. Jesus gave up his life for our sins. This is the way he could give us redemption. In the first chapters of the Bible, the kingdom of God is described as a space in which God rules. through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We are promised that with faith in hand, we will be allowed into God’s kingdom one day. Once Jesus was crucified, and resurrected, he came back to preach of the kingdom of God. Jesus preaches to the apostles the promise of the kingdom and the promise of world salvation. Just like in the case of Steven, who was hit with heavy rocks until he died, he begged God for their forgiveness, for they did not know what they did. Just like Jesus begged God for the guard’s forgiveness during his crucifixion we must also not judge those who might be ignorant to the word of God. Instead, we must pray for them to be enlightened one day, and have the light and love of God.
The significance of Acts 2:17 “I will pour out my spirit and all you people” is what God said will happen in the last days. This is a manifestation of what is to come. The word of the Lord and the promises are not just limited to the apostles who follow God but also all those within the church who understand the gospel. The glory and love of God can be shared through anyone who faithfully follows our Lord and King. It is not limited to just a certain race of people.

This week’s topic is my analysis of the book of Acts and how the Spirit of God and how Jesus makes the world right again, the way God meant it to be. As they are transformed by the Spirit into a group of laborers who use wealth and power at work to set themselves apart from the community at large, the lives of Jesus’ disciples are documented in the book of Acts. The first phase in the mission is the formation of the unique community known as the church. According to Acts 1:6, Luke begins with the people “when they had come together” and concludes with the intention of “restoring the kingdom to Israel.” The community must be focused first on serving the kingdom of God, and then on defining itself as the kingdom of God’s representative in day-to-day existence. The goal of Jesus to bring the world back to as God intended it to be is modified in the book of Acts as the goal of the followers of Jesus.

Discussion 5: The Story Spreads
After reading Luke and gaining new insights on the Creation, Fall and Redemption of the New Testament and also from my peers, it’s no wonder I was eager to continue reading the saga and learn how the stories spread through Acts 1. I was aware before that Jesus died and rose again in three days but did not know that he then teaches for another 40 days. That new insight amazed me because it’s a number God uses often and because that’s a long time to teach after your death. It almost seems unreal. It seems impossible. But not impossible for God because he truly is the infinite of possibilities. And when the apostles asked Jesus if He would be restoring the kingdom to Israel and then Jesus replied to them that they would be receiving the power of the Holy Spirit and that they would indeed be His witnesses in all Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and all the world, I felt as though He was telling them He would use them to restore the kingdom. And I think this verse describes how, “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams” Acts 2:17 (1. Bible.com). God describes the people of his kingdom in this verse as being filled with the Holy Spirit and testimony to prophesize along with visions and dreams. Jesus also spreads the word of peace and forgiveness found in the kingdom. The apostles did not receive peace right away though. They were first imprisoned for trying to spread the word.
