FINAL PAPER: LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN (Due Thursday 4/25 via Blackboard)
The objective of this final assignment is to integrate the course materials and concepts into a personal leadership development plan. Your leadership development plan must include:
Section 1: Leadership Values and Vision
Values
Describe and explore your own set of core values. What matters most to you and why? Where did your values come from? Draw on the My Values list posted on Blackboard.
Leadership Vision
What is your leadership vision 10 years from now? Imagine that a webcam is following you for a week in 2034. What is it capturing? Let yourself dream. What leadership traits and characteristics are you demonstrating? Describe your view of yourself as a high performer, a leader, an innovator. Describe your contributions, impact, activities, events, roles, responsibilities, and interactions with others. What kind of results will you be achieving? How will you be demonstrating leadership?
How do you see your core values reflected in your leadership vision scenario?
Section 2: Analysis of Leadership Styles & Competencies: Your Personal Balance Sheet
Prepare a personal balance sheet using only the 6 leadership styles and 18 emotional intelligence (EI) competencies in the class power point material. Your personal balance sheet is a diagnosis of your current styles and competency strengths, and styles and competency gaps related to leadership.
Describe your distinctive emotional intelligence (EI) competency strengths (minimum 5-6) and provide evidence for your thinking. Give an example of how you effectively demonstrated each competency strength.
Describe the leadership styles that are your distinctive strengths (minimum 2-3) and why you believe they are your strengths. Give an example of how you effectively demonstrated each style strength.
Identify those EI competencies that have high developmental priority for you (minimum 4) and a rationale for why you selected these competencies.
Identify those leadership styles that you would like to develop (minimum 2) and your reasoning for why you selected those styles.
Section 3: Leadership Development Goals & Action Plan
Write at least 2 leadership development goals. Your goals must relate to the development of any aspect of leadership covered in this course. Each goal should be one sentence, describing an outcome that is concrete, specific, personally meaningful, affirmative, challenging but attainable, and tied to a timeframe.
Prepare a list of action steps for each leadership development goal. These are the concrete steps that you will complete to accomplish each goal. These actions include your strategies for developing your leadership and leadership skills.
For each goal, discuss how you will monitor and assess your progress along the way towards accomplishing it.
A Note about Style, Format and Length:
Be certain to make effective use of course readings, materials, activities, and class discussions in your plan. The expected length is a minimum of 8 double-spaced pages. You are discussing what is important to you and what you want to develop for your leadership, so it should be evident that you have given careful thought to these issues.
