Perceptions of renewable energy & transitions in our region (US Southeast) – This is an applied research that meets the knowledge + business development needs of a local solar company (Clearloop) – Clearloop is a solar developer that builds utility scale solar capacity and connects it to the electric grid; their focus is on developing and connecting solar capacity to the dirtiest part of the US electric grid; the logic is that 1MW of solar capacity added to a dirty, coal-powered part of the US grid avoids a lot more emissions that 1MW of solar added to a part of the US grid that is already 50% renewable powered. Clearloop finances the development of new utility-scale solar facilities by selling the carbon offsets generated by their new solar development.
