For many of you, mental health diagnoses will be relevant part of your work life
For many of you, mental health diagnoses will be relevant part of your work life, whether you are nurses who are treating patients with health and mental health issues, or mental health providers, directly providing treatment to clients.
The goal of this exercise is to start to attune your mind’s eye towards diagnosis.
Now, a golden rule for providers and practitioners is that we do not diagnose friends or family. This holds true for us in this course.
Instead, I want you to start by identifying a character you enjoy in either a film, television series, or a book. (Don’t pick a character that has a diagnosis that’s been identified)
Think about the issues that they present with. Using what we have talked about in class, I want you to do your best to attempt to identify some potential diagnoses for your character, based on the symptoms that you observe in them. Support your reasoning if you can. Finally, if possible, tell me what you think could help this character with the issue they are dealing with. I know that none of you are clinicians, I am looking for your best guess here.
