Section 1: Introduction to Paper – In a clear thesis statement, identify one theory covered in class that you believe is the most valid explanation for criminal behavior. Keep in mind that an introduction MUST include a clear thesis statement.
Section 2: Theoretical Assumptions – What are the main theoretical assumptions of the theory? In this section be sure to cite and rely on your module materials and lecture.
Section 3: Empirical Support – Has the theory been empirically supported? Cite three to five empirical peer-reviewed journal articles that have tested the theory, and be sure to report the findings of these studies.
Section 4: Policy – What policies could be implemented if the theory were to be adopted by the criminal justice system?
Section 5: Discussion – Explain in detail why you think this theory does the best job of explaining criminal behavior.  Be sure to support your argument with the theoretical assumptions, empirical support, and policy implications of the theory. Module 1’s discussion on the elements of a good theory will be useful here. This is the most important part of the paper so make sure you spend time in this section!
Section 6: Conclusion – A conclusion that provides a summary of the main arguments in the term paper.
