The purpose of the literature review is to demonstrate that you are familiar with the topic and
previous scholarship on the subject. The literature review involves summarizing and synthesizing
what other studies have done and found on the topic. While you began a literature review in
SOC/PLSC 205, you most likely will need to expand it for your final capstone paper.
a) A thorough review of all the relevant scholarly literature (at least 15 to 20 sources) related to
your topic. Discuss how the literature relates to the topic and how it suggests the problem.
Acceptable sources include journals such as American Sociological Review, American Journal of
Sociology, Social Forces, Journal of Marriage and Family, Demography, Criminology, etc.
Encyclopedias are generally not to be used. Be careful about web sources; check their accuracy,
and be sure to note all relevant bibliographic information—do NOT use Wikipedia. Blogs,
newspapers, and opinion pieces are also generally unacceptable in scholarly writing, especially at
the senior capstone level. Sources should be cited in the ASA style. Students should write in
their own words, avoiding the overuse of direct quotes. Students should further be mindful of
writing in their own words and properly citing ALL sources in the text of their papers. Do not
use paraphrasing, rewriting, content-generation, and/or translation websites, apps, or programs,

b) The section also includes a precise statement of the hypotheses that you are interested in
testing. The literature review should provide a rationale/justification for the hypotheses.
Hypotheses generally come toward the end of the literature review because they should be
derived from your reading of prior research on the topic.
c) The instructor’s evaluation criteria of the literature review include the following: amount and
rigor of literature cited; whether the literature review reads well, suggests the research problem,
and leads to the stated hypotheses; and actual clearly stated hypotheses.

the world’s issue of wondering what type of governmental style is better most
wonder if democratic or non-democratic countries are better. There are many
variables in comparing the two types of governments. Do citizens of democratic
countries have a better life with well-being economically than those who are
nondemocratic?

article talked about funding for different countries (participatory budgeting),
to help with the social well-being of the citizens of a democracy. Touchton and
Wampler believe that a strong connection between the program PB increases the
health scare spending leading to better economic development.

economic development should be measured for democratic governance.
Theory:
My
theory stems from the importance of countries having a high life expectancy
rate, great education levels, and a better standard of living for a country to
have a high GDP per capita. A high life expectancy rate allows a person to
continue to make money for longevity. From a sociological perspective, the
higher the life expectancy rate a country has, the lower the fertility and
population growth, and thus higher returns on human capital investments for
those living longer.

Research:
On the
multiple regression analysis, there were only two that were either
statistically significant or approaching statistically significant, which are
the independent variable human development index (ranges from 0 to 1, with zero
being developing and 1 being developed countries), and the control variable,
which is the globalization index (rescaling from 0 to 100). The HDI is slightly
significant, with the p-value being greater than 0.05 but not greater than 1.0,
which makes it enough to have some significance. The globalization index is
statistically significant, with the data being 0.0, which is less than the
p-value of 0.05. The highest standardized coefficient is the globalization
index, with the number being 429, which is higher than the other statistically
significant standardized coefficient. This means that the globalization index
has a greater influence on the dependent variable, which is GDP per capita,
than 0.
Conclusion:
There was
minimal weakness in this assignment, with the biggest being that 175 countries
were being analyzed, yet only 118 countries were in the regression analysis,
meaning that the other countries were missing data. More data would be useful,
as maybe my R square would go up to be more credible.
Remarks
Developing countries often face challenges with economic,
political, and social globalization due to limited resources, inadequate
infrastructure, and unequal access to global markets. Political instability and
governance issues can hinder effective participation in international affairs,
while social disparities and cultural differences may impede the integration of
diverse societies into the global community. If I had the opportunity to go
further in my assignment, I would conduct qualitative research focusing on
interviewing developing and developed countries to see why there is a big gap
between the two types of countries.
