Hello Professor and Class,
Think about how you would feel if there were no rules

Hello Professor and Class,
Think about how you would feel if there were no rules regarding how your credit card information was stored on merchants’ websites. Consider whether you would purchase items online. Would the Internet be as big as it is today if we had no laws or information security policies regarding data that makes up an e-commerce transaction? Provide a rationale for your answer.
If there were no rules regarding how my information was stored, I would not buy anything online. The consequences that may occur if my PII (Personal Identifiable Information) would be too much of a risk for me. I would rather just go buy it in person with cash.
Honestly, I believe that the internet would not be as widely used as it is today. Without laws or security polices there would be a chance (a very high one at that) that users PII would be accessed by unscrupulous people. Without those laws to protect the users, users would not be able to hold the companies liable for leaking information. This would lead to a downfall in trust in any business and lead to the business going bankrupt or having to close their online website.
Imagine that you work for an organization that has no Internet use policy. Employees use the Internet in whatever way they want using company-owned personal computers. Could this cause a problem for the organization? Why or why not?
This could cause many issues for the organization. Allowing employees to use the internet however they want can lead to the organization’s system being breached. With a system breach not only could users’ information be leaked, but trade secrets could also be exposed. If users’ information is leaked and no policy is in place, then the organization becomes 100% responsible. There would be no way for the business to separate themselves from the employee and they would have to bear not only any legal fines/fees but would also lose users trust and business. Another possible issue is damage to the company’s personal property (aka the computers/servers/system electronics) this alone could cost an organization a large sum of money.
