My name is April Lemon, I am currently active-duty Army and have been in for 9 years. I am a 25B, IT Specialist at Fort Liberty, NC. I am currently transitioning out of the Army and hoping to get an internship before my terminal leave which starts in a few months. I am 5 classes away from obtaining my bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity! I am Security+, A+, and Certified Ethical Hacker certified. My goal is to work within the cybersecurity field, working as a penetration tester or cybersecurity system analyst first and hopefully in digital forensics one day.
The four major roles of a protection officer are:
1. Management representative- protection officer representative to work hand in hand with other sections management to ensure the cohesion throughout the organization to include security
2. Intelligence agent- gathers important information necessary to be reported to management and identify trends or growing issues security related
3. Compliance or enforcement agent- enforces the rules of their environment and administers risk assessments
4. Legal consultant- protection officer who knows the legal standards and how to apply them accordingly
I believe the legal consultant and compliance/enforcement agent could be one in the same. I think because the compliance/enforcement agent must know the laws, regulations etc. in order to ensure risk assessments to ensure compliance they could give legal assistance in security legal issues. I also believe what is missing is physical protection officers, those who are there for security and safety of personnel and assets.
