Follow this format for defining terms.
Define (always do first) the concept.
Here’s an example: Concept as defined by Adler, R.B., Rosenfeld, L.B., & Proctor, R.F.
(2018) noted that “direct cite” (p. number).
Explain how the concept (use some wording from the concept) is demonstrated in the
context descriptions (behaviors and messages)
Part II of the self-assessment: Now that we are at the end of the semester, reanalyze your
interpersonal communication strength, weakness, goal, and tactic. Use specific terms with
examples.
Think about the communication skills you have obtained over the course of the semester. You
might, for example, consider your general communication skills (such as expressing yourself
clearly, thinking before you speak, making up your mind firmly, saying “no” without feeling
guilty), your self-awareness skills (such as understanding your own strengths and weaknesses,
being able to identify your values, recognizing the impact of your behavior on others, setting
realistic goals), and your interpersonal skills (such as listening with an open mind, being a good
“people reader,” expressing feelings appropriately), and so on. Use concrete writing. Refer to
the syllabus. Answer these questions in ALL writing assignments: who said what? To
whom? In what way? How? How often? Why? When? Where? Answering these questions
help to shape communication encounters and term applications.
