Description/Task
In your previous writing assignment you were tasked with selecting one of the topics listed below and writing everything you know about it in one page without consulting any online or course material. For this writing assignment, you will be using course material and peer- reviewed research to write about the topic you chose. For this writing assignment, you have three tasks:
1. Three Annotated Bibliographies: Go to Google Scholar (scholar.google.com) or the Ole Miss Library (https://libraries.olemiss.edu/) and spend some time searching for peer- reviewed empirical articles related to your topic. Select three of those articles, read them, and write an annotated bibliography for each article. In 100-150 words each, an effective annotated bibliography for this course should: 1) Describe the research question(s) of the article, 2) Describe how the author(s) went about answering the research question(s), 3)
Explain the findings, and 4) Synthesize what the findings mean relative to the literature
discussed/reviewed.
Define and Synthesize: Drawing on your three annotated bibliographies, define your
topic and write a synthesizing paragraph describing what the weight of the evidence suggests regarding your topic. Critically think about what you read for your selected topic and describe what the research collectively means for your topic. Things you can think about: Is stop-and-frisk policing effective? Are there unintended consequencesrelated to problem-oriented policing? There are pros, cons, and themes to all of the topics you could have selected, based on what you read, what are they?
Reflection: Reflect on what you have learned since your last assignment. How is your topic different than what you expected? Are you surprised by anything? What were correct about? Were you wrong about anything? What do you still not know/understand? These are just a few questions to get you thinking and reflecting! Please note, this is the only section that can have a degree of “opinion” in it. The rest of your essay should be evidence-based.
the first assignment talked about mental health and policing. This topic is the one you’ll refer to.
