Identify at least 2 research articles (from academic journals or scholarly texts) that relate to or inform the position of newspaper article.
Identify how those sources are in alignment or are in tension with the newspaper article.
Identify where you stand on the topic based on your sources.
Write a position paper that critiques and/or assesses the quality of the arguments and/or position of the newspaper article, specifically as you are informed by the research articles.
Think of yourself as commenting on a conversation between the author of the newspaper article and the authors of the research articles. You may agree or disagree with the author of the newspaper article. You may agree with the position of the author but find the arguments/justification lacking. Or you may find the arguments compelling, but that the conclusion does not follow.
Write an approximately 500-word position statement essay (double spaced, 12 pt., Times New Roman font) that includes a title and bibliographic references that:
Introduces the topic.
Restates in your own words the position of the author of the newspaper article and its main arguments.
Analyzes, critiques, and/or assesses the author’s position in light the research articles.
Summarizes your position on the topic as informed by the newspaper and research articles.
