Instructions:
You can select any topic (related to Comparative Public Policy). It may be related to one country (except the U.S.), or you may compare and contrast 2-3 countries (in this case one of them could be the U.S.)
If you have questions, consult me. In order to declare the topic of your final paper, you need to put together a 1-2 -page research design (the use of bullet points accompanied by a brief narrative is ok).
The design of the term paper has to include:
title
reason (s) why you selected the topic.
research question (s),
timeframe covered by your study (e.g., 2010 to the present);
a preliminary outline (main points that you plan to cover), and
at least 5 pertinent sources.
Example: Imagine that you are interested in the topic ofImmigration Policy of Canada. Since the subject matter is broad you have to select:
A research question (two is ok), and a timeframe, which refers to the period of time that you will emphasized in your paper (although you can always add a section of antecedents / context), e.g. “Is there a difference between the Canada’s policies on immigration in regard to European and Latin American Immigrants in the new millennium?
The timeframe is 2012 to the present (so you can cover three U.S. administrations).
The preliminary outline may include: 1) antecedents; 2) policies toward the two areas of the world; 3) similarities and differences between Canadian policies 4) conclusions
