Current Topics Paper: Your paper will highlight current events that are impacting nursing facility administrators, residents and/or staff. It will be:
a. Based on current and relevant news articles and/or scholarly publications
b. Presented in APA format with a maximum of 5 written pages (not including the cover page, Abstract page and References pages
NOTE: you pick ONE topic and find 3 fairly current and relevant articles on that one topic (less than 15 years old)
Part II: Paper Content
Students are encouraged to utilize Google Scholar; however, other research databases are also allowed.
a. Locate current research on nursing facilities, focusing on a current topic that is relevant to material covered in this course and/or in your required textbook
b. Find three (3) full length articles/papers/research publications about your topic that you find interesting and that are current to the nursing facility industry, profession, consumers, etc.
NOTE: Some examples of topics if you are struggling to think of your own: “abuse and neglect”, “increased falls with person centered care”, “civil money penalties”, “community giving”, “intergenerational programming”, “elopement”, “leadership challenges in nursing facilities”, “use of psychotropics for improved quality of life”, “greenhouse design versus smallhouse”, “most common life safety code citations”, “non-monetary recruitment and retention strategies”, “utilization of resident satisfaction surveys” etc. There are a multitude of options, these are just examples.
c. Read, review and summarize each article you researched in the current topics paper.
