Final Paper
Your final paper should be at least 8 pages typed and double spaced. Please follow the rubric below:
The Horror film that you will analyze. You can choose any Horror film that was not shown in class.
A paper title that reflects the film you chose and the focus or argument of your paper. This is your first stab at writing a film title so feel free to experiment here. As you develo
A title that is descriptive and suggestive of your topic and main argument. (2 pts)
An introduction (one to two pages) that (3 pts):
Establishes a context, common ground and/or shared understanding of your topic.
State your problem (or question) that you are answering/analyzing in your paper.
State your argument/claim that you will make about the film (this is your answer to your problem or question). It is best not to leave your reader wondering what your main point/argument is – so think about the introduction as a roadmap of your paper and argument so the reader knows what to look for as they read through the paper.
Analysis (7 pts):
Here you want to organize your paper into two or three sections (each with a subtitle) that support your main argument/claim. Typically, the first section provides context for your topic, perhaps historical and social contexts, context about the horror subgenre or filmmaker. Then you will write sections that support your main argument, providing evidence from your scholarly sources and the film. HINT: during the course we will be developing ways to analyze film, including elements such as acting, setting, costumes, cinematography, editing and sound. You can use what you learned about these to be specific about how your film represents the topic and issue you are focused on.
Note: It is best to summarize through paraphrasing (or putting into your own words) what you want to bring out from your sources. When you use one of your sources you want to be sure to cite them. To do this, after you write about their work, put the author’s last name in parentheses at the end of the sentence, such as (Wilson). If you use the exact wording from your author, it is important to quote them (“like this”) and cite the page number where the quote was from, like this (Wilson, p. 34).
Conclusion (2 pts):
Start with reiterating or reminding readers what your main point/argument is.
Add a new significance or application (how is your argument significant beyond your specific film).
Bibliography (2 pts):
Begin on a separate page.
List your sources in alphabetical order using MLA
We will be using the Horror film “US” (2019) Directed by Jordan Peele
