Directions: In an MLA formatted essay, in 3-5 pages with at least 3 in-text citations and a Works Cited page not counting towards the page minimum, your paper must address the following for up to 200 points:
Choose a singer or band of your liking. Now choose three different songs by that artist or group.
Next, after selecting your artist and three songs, your paper must address how this singer or band uses word choice/diction, imagery, symbols, mood, and/or personification in music. What do these elements address in each song? Is there a shared theme? Explain. There should be at least 3 in-text citations in your paper referring to the lyrics.
I am providing videos on the previously mentioned literary elements this week to help you understand the terms: imagery, symbolism, personification, and theme. Be sure to watch the videos to understand how to use these terms in your poetry project.
Personally, if I were to choose Beyonce for this project, I could quote and analyze the lyrics of three songs (“Drunk in Love,” “Partition,” and “Flawless”) to examine the themes of feminism and sex positivity in her music. Feel free to choose your own artist and three songs! This project is truly open for your creativity.
