Problem: St. Sebastiano is shown at his martyrdom pierced with arrows, yet rather than
suffering, his body appears heroic and idealized. Most striking is the visual parallel created
by the juxtaposition of his flesh-and-blood foot and the fragment of a marble statue, a foot in
a Roman sandal, next to it.
