Part 2: Stakeholder Collaboration and Family Engagement Action Plan (b1a and b1f

Part 2: Stakeholder Collaboration and Family Engagement Action Plan (b1a and b1f)
Teacher Interview: Prepare an interview in which you can learn about what the teacher does to communicate with families about student achievement on assessment data and/or MDCPS assessments. Have them explain how the data is collected and used to engage in discussions with:
school site administration;
colleagues in teaching the same topics in the department;
students; and
families/caregivers.
Discuss the things they do with each of the stakeholders. Here are a few questions to guide your discussion (Please be aware that you are not limited to these.).
What communication do they use and how they use those approaches with the different stakeholders?
What do they consider most important in terms of communication with each of the different stakeholders?
What strategies do they use to involve families/caregivers who are not likely to show up on their own (due to their own bad experiences in school, cultural background, etc.)?
How do they build support for using research-based practices to support student achievement? If the teacher is not using research-based practices, you may replace this item by asking them what they want parents to know as the priorities in their class.
Write up a goal and action plan for engaging families to improve instruction and student achievement (see sample below).
Sample Goal and Action Pan
Goal: “To improve positive two-way communication with all families, I will call, email or write to families monthly with positive information
about their child, instead of only reaching out with negative or challenging information. During this time, I will invite families to discuss student
progress, share insights that may support me in working with their child, and to try at home activities to support learning. I will measure my
progress towards this goal by tracking outreach in a communication log, taking notes during family meetings, and collecting sign-in sheets
from events.”
